THE UNEXPECTED RESTLESSNESS OF RETIREMENT
When I retired I thought I would simply ease into a gentler pace of life. But, boy, was I in for a big surprise. I actually struggled to ease into a slower pace of life. I struggled with a sense of restlessness. I struggled with a sense of wasting time. And I struggled with impatience. This article relates my struggles going into retirement. Here’s the link:

50 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP & COUNTING
Some friendships are like flowering plants – they may blossom slowly and only produce flowers from time to time but they bloom on an ongoing basis and remain long-lasting. I am proud to say that I am part of a group of Raffles Institution schoolmates who have an ongoing friendship spanning more than 50 years. That’s more than half a century. And along with the length of friendship is a depth of friendship that makes it rather special – and I think having our friendships begun in school has a lot to do with it.

LIFE LESSONS FROM DAD
My dad died when I was nine. His lessons have stayed with me for life. And the man I am today was shaped by what he taught me in spite of the brief time we had together.
TRAVEL NOW – DON’T WAIT FOR RETIREMENT
If you like travelling to other countries, travel now. Don’t wait for retirement. Go while you still have the capacity to really enjoy travelling.

MAKING PEACE WITH THE LAND
We are on the way to becoming the masters of our own destruction – unless we do something about it. The toll of excesses and waste we have put on the planet will do us in if we don’t stop what we have been doing. In this article I wrote about making peace with the land.

SINGAPORE’S RIVER OF HISTORY
I contributed this article to CNA in the Today/Voices section in commemoration of SG60 after a walk along the Singapore river. It was like a walk through time. I found myself turning the pages of history in my mind upon seeing the many monuments marking the milestones in our nation’s journey from a fishing village settlement to a global metropolis. Monuments like the Merlion statue, the statue of Raffles, Boat Quay shophouses and Clarke Quay warehouses, colonial buildings by the river that now house the Fullerton Hotel, Asian Civilisations Museum, Arts House, Victoria Theatre and the Parliament, and the British-era bridges. The river boats also served as a reminder of Singapore’s long history as a trading port.
